Questions About Coaching

What is life coaching?

Life coaching aims to empower clients to make, meet and exceed their personal and professional goals. Coaching conversations can help you explore what’s working in your life, what’s not, and where you want to be now and in the future.

Coaching will provide you with tools to take control and actualize the larger life you want to be living.  A life that honors who you are at the deepest level and how you want to show up at work, in relationships and the world as a whole.

What’s the difference between coaching and therapy?

Coaching is about recognizing where you are presently in life, and where you are energized to go in the future. Therapy tends to be focused on healing and understanding the past.

Often when we spend time exploring who we are or what we want in life it can feel therapeutic and eye opening.  This is one of the biggest benefits of coaching: getting future focused.

Let me be clear, I am not a therapist.  If during our coaching conversations it seems you might be better suited in working with a therapist, I’m happy to make a few local referrals.

Who can benefit from coaching?

  • Anyone who feels like an aspect of their life is on repeat
  • Those who know change needs to happen, but don’t know where to start
  • When your best efforts to change are routinely sabotaged by self-limiting beliefs
  • People seeking motivation to achieve their goals with built in accountability
  • Those in need of a perspective shift in certain aspects of their lives
  • People who want to live a large, luscious life

What type of training do you have?

This is a question I encourage you ask any coach you are interested in working with.

I am a certified Co-Active Coach through the Coaches Training Institute.  CTI is one of the leading institutions in the coaching industry, and is recognized by the International Coaching Federation.

Additionally, I have a masters degree in Communications and hold certifications in the following :

  • The Leadership Circle Profile (TLCP): an excellent 360 view of leadership capabilities I can use with my corporate clients
  • Pulse: A supplement to TLCP above, Pulse is an accountability method to help corporate clients achieve their coaching goals
  • DiSC: A behavioral assessment tool to understand personal and team behavior in life and the workplace

What does a typical coaching session look like?

My coaching commitments usually range from 4-6 months. Geography isn't an issue as I coach individuals over the phone or through Skype/FaceTime across the nation.  Each bi-monthly session lasts one hour, and we’ll work to find a time that fits into both our schedules.

Your first coaching session is the exception, and is usually 90 minutes in length.  During this longer discovery session, I’ll have provided you with pre-work to help us narrow down what you most want to achieve with our time together.

During our session, you should expect to do most of the talking (I'll be asking lots of questions and getting curious about your answers), getting up on your feet from time to time, and tapping into your wisdom and desires for the future.

At the end of a session, you’ll likely get some homework to tackle before the next time we meet.

How do I know if you’re the right coach for me?

The absolute best way to see if I’m the right coach for you is to request a complimentary sample session.  It’s a great way to confirm we have a connection, and get a sense of my coaching style and how it best suits your needs.

What if I sign up and change my mind?

While I certainly hope that is not the case, I want you to rest assured. If we both agree that the coaching just isn’t working, I will refund any of your remaining coaching sessions. I want you to feel confident in hiring me as your coach and get the most out of working with me.

How much will this cost, and what types of payment do you take?

I charge a flat hourly rate, which is discounted depending upon the session package you decide to purchase, and can be paid in installments. You are welcome to pay online via credit card, check or a cash transfer.

I’m sold. How do I sign up?

Let’s chat! Please email me, and I’ll be in touch to have a conversation about what you want to work on and how we can best proceed.
